About Us

Our History

If you stand on the hill at 573 Hilldale Rd., you can almost hear the echo of boots on the old barn boards, the voices of farmers talking about crops, hunting seasons, and the land that shaped their lives. Long before Holtwood had a name this ridge was simply a farm and a gathering place of Lancaster.

In 1926 a small group of farmers and conservationists decided their conservations shouldn’t stay between fence lines. They wanted a place where neighbors could meet, learn, and protect the land they depended on.  Their efforts, grew into what would become the Lancaster County Sportsmen’s Association officially incorporated on March 15, 1930 with a mission to protect game, fish, forests and streams.

The original Sportsfarm was a barn built on 135 acres with about 40 members. It served as the heart of the club for decades, a place for meetings, social events, and the kind of steady community work that holds a town together.

In the early 1970s, a fire destroyed the barn completely, members rebuilt it themselves over the next five years. Adding the upstairs and creating the foundation of the building that stands today. When it reopened the club operated one night a week with live bands, good food and $.60 beers a cheeseburger and fries cost about $3.50 and the atmosphere was pure community.

Membership, grew steadily from 100 to 200 members in the 1980s to 1000 members by 2026, including several life members with over 40 years of dedication. The 1990s brought the first pool table and the start of pool league today the club has three tables and active leagues.

Nearly a century after its founding, the Lancaster County Sportsmen’s Association remains rooted in the same values that built it grit, conservation, fellowship, and a community that shows up for each other. The Lancaster County Sportsmen’s Association is known by many names LCSA, the club, Mt.  Nebo, but most commonly known as a Sportsfarm. The story of the Sportsfarm is still being written, with many years to come.
